Restaurant Advocacy
Our goal is to raise awareness of food allergies within our local restaurants & food services in order to create a more safe & comfortable environment for food allergic families to dine.
__________________________________________
Approximately 12 million Americans have food allergies. Each year, 30,000 of them rush to emergency rooms as a result of a food-induced life-threatening reaction.
A number of reactions & fatalities have occurred because restaurant wait staff did not take the food allergy questions seriously or did not know how to answer the diner's questions. Cross-contact in the kitchen, hidden ingredients, or unexpected use of common allergens during food preparation also have caused a number of allergic reactions for unsuspecting individuals. (FAAN)
FA Kids of Atlanta has created a Food Allergy management resource folder that is presented to restaurant and food service management. These resources, along with a food allergy training video created for restaurants & food services by the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network are introduced to employees and explains the risks associated with the preparation of an allergen-free meals & dangers of cross-contamination.
FA Kids of Atlanta will approach local restaurants and food service managers in the community to ask for their participation in attending, or allowing our organization to present, food allergy safety seminars & educational workshops to employees & staff.
FA Kids of Atlanta will introduce suggestions & guidelines on how to take the steps in implementing a food allergy management guideline for their own establishment.
