Food Allergy Awareness Week:  Get Involved

INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES

  • Encourage local officials to get involved.  Contact your County Board of Commissioners office to request an Official Declarations of Support and Community Action, or Proclamation, recognizing Food Allergy Awareness May 13-19, 2018. Email info@fakidsatl.org for assistance.
  • Give thanks to those who support you!  Recognize those who help keep you safe while dining out, at school, or during family gatherings.
  • Coordinate an educational presentation. Coordinate food allergy training for your school, church, or daycare! Contact info@fakidsatl.org for assistance.
  • Use social media to educate!  Post daily food allergy and anaphylaxis facts each day during FAAW on Facebook or your blog. You can also Tweet about food allergies and anaphylaxis (use #foodallergy / #anaphylaxis). Be sure to post a link to the Food Allergy Kids of Atlanta's Facebook Page.
  • Educate your community!  Let your local library, schools, community center, hospital, etc. know about FAAW so they can celebrate. For printed copies of educational materials to distribute, please email info@fakidsatl.org.
  • Set up a food allergy display!  Ask your local library to organize a FAAW exhibition with books and reference material about food allergies and anaphylaxis, or offer to set up a booth to educate the general public about your local and national food allergy organizations.
  • Contact your local media!  Contact your local radio and television stations to incorporate a food allergy and anaphylaxis related segment into their programming schedule during FAAW.
  • Wear Teal! Pick a day during FAAW to wear teal in your school, community, and workplace to show that together we CAN be the change in making our communities safer places to live, learn, work and play!
  • Show your appreciation!  Honor a student or local young person who helps make a difference for others in your school or community.
  • Get creative!  Make your version of a food allergy awareness and educational poster and share it with others.
  • Support others!  Share a food allergy flyer with local allergist offices, educators, and individuals in your community.
  • Provide your school with food allergy resources!  Purchase food allergy books and donate them to your local school or library.
