Allergy-Friendly Public Event is scheduled for May 3, 2015, from 9:00 AM – Noon at Perimeter Mall in Atlanta, GA

April 23, 2015 – The local nonprofit food allergy organization, Food Allergy Kids of Atlanta (FAKA) and Kids With Food Allergies (KFA) invite Georgia and Atlanta community members to sign up for the “Strides for Safe Kids Mall Walk and Expo” event scheduled for Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Perimeter Mall.  Participants can pre-register online at www.stridesforsafekids.org. Registration for this event is free.

The 5k mall walk and expo runs from 9:00 AM to Noon and features entertainment the whole family can enjoy, including an interactive performance by Food Allergy Rocks musician Kyle Dine.  Event sponsors and support groups will be set up in front of Dillard’s during the event, and participants will receive take-away samples and resources from sponsors such as Mylan, Sanofi, Enjoy Life Foods, Neocate and others.  Registrants have the opportunity to win valuable raffle prizes including certified asthma & allergy friendly products and services like a free Dyson vacuum and a free full-house carpet cleaning by Stanley Steemer.

Today, food allergies affect approximately 1-in-12 kids in the U.S., and over 100,000 kids in Georgia alone, the Strides for Safe Kids event is intended to raise awareness about food allergies and to support local grassroots efforts. “This event is more than a walk – it brings adults and kids of all ages together at a local mall with special guests, entertainers, unique sponsors, donors and other supporters for a day filled with activities to celebrate families living with food allergies,” says Lynda Mitchell, Founder of Kids With Food Allergies, a division of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) and now Sr. Vice President for AAFA.

The funds raised for this event will benefit FAKA and KFA and will help support programs in Georgia communities. “Hosting KFA’s Strides for Safe Kids event in Atlanta emphasizes our commitment to spread awareness of food allergies in our local area. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with a national organization and host this important event,” said Karen Harris, Founder for Food Allergy Kids of Atlanta.
