2014 Local Support Meetings

Food Allergy Kids of Atlanta hosts support group meetings for its members in select areas of Georgia, including Atlanta.

FAKA support groups are led by professionals within our community. Topics relate to food allergies, anaphylaxis, research, education and more.  

Allergy friendly samples, beverages, and door prizes are provided. In addition, both educational materials and resources are available for all members.

FAKA Two Hour Workshop, Back-to-School  with Food Allergies, Anaphylaxis, and Asthma!

Topics:

  • Food allergies and anaphylaxis: How to recognize the signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction and when to give epinephrine; and creating and understanding an emergency action plan

  •  Presenting Speaker:  Deidre Coker, M.D. 

  • Food Allergies and Schools: 504 plans, IEPs and more! Do we need them & what do they mean, and how to advocate for your child in a non-confrontational manner.

About:
 

Dr. Deidre Crocker has made Georgia her home for the past six years after graduating from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and completing residency training and board certification in Pediatrics at Vanderbilt University Children’s Hospital. Dr. Crocker’s personal battle with asthma and food allergies along with her research at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) led her to pursue a specialization in Allergy and Immunology through fellowship training at the Medical College of Georgia. Her research interest includes diagnosis and management of food allergies and asthma. She has several published research papers on asthma mortality and interventions, which has led to the creation of new programs to help prevent asthma fatalities in Georgia.  Dr. Crocker is Board Certified in Allergy and Immunology and Pediatrics. She is a member of The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, The American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Debbie L. Dobbs, MS is a child advocate and educational consultant. She works with children of all ages and any ability. As an educational advocate, Debbie can help you with IEP's, 504 plans, eligibility, behavioral plans, discipline hearings, and more. She can attend meetings with you or work with you behind the scenes to develop an appropriate plan. Additionally, Debbie help's families Navigate The Maze of funding and resources and assists families with Katie Beckett Medicaid Deeming Waiver Applications. She offers seminars to parent groups, school groups, and disability support groups on both educational advocacy and funding topics.
